Early Wednesday morning, the bloodied bodies of a husband and wife were found lying on the street outside their house in Kazi Para, Kashiyara Moktar Bagan area, Ward No. 11, Memari Municipality, Purba Bardhaman district. The deceased have been identified as Haji Mustafizur Rahman, aged approximately 66, and his wife Momtaz Parvin, aged about 56. Both had their throats slit and were discovered by local residents around 4 AM when they were heading for morning prayers. The police from Memari Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after being informed.
The bodies were taken to Burdwan Medical College for postmortem examination. According to preliminary police investigation, it appears the couple was killed inside their home, after which the bodies were dragged to the street and left there. Additional Superintendent of Police Ark Bandopadhyay visited the crime scene to oversee the investigation. The police are conducting detailed questioning of local residents as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Local sources confirmed that the deceased couple had one son, Humayun Kabir Siddiqui, who has been missing since the incident. Humayun was a civil engineer working for a company in Delhi. He had reportedly gone missing from Delhi and was later found in Uttarakhand after an extended period. Around three months ago, he was brought back to Bardhaman. Police have not commented on any connection between his disappearance and the murders.
The investigation remains active, with authorities focused on gathering evidence and identifying potential suspects. No further details regarding motives or arrests have been released at this time. The police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
